"It's Time to Play"
Stringing the generations together!
About
The First Note
Welcome to the Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra. We believe that there is magic in bringing musicians of all ages together to explore, rehearse, and perform great music.
Together In Harmony
There is nothing new about the idea of an intergenerational community. In fact, intergenerational groups are as old as the human family. Our musical family, in all of it's uniquenss, will thrive from our rich diversity. After all, each of us needs something and has something to give away.
The Future Sounds Good
We have a chair waiting for you. The iGen Symphony Orchestra welcomes string players from middle school age on up. WIO welcomes experienced string players from middle school on up.
We hope you will agree
“It’s Time to Play”
A note from Anne Marie
Thank you for visiting our website. You've heard the expression "Music is the international language". We believe that music is also the tool we can use to help build community, understanding and compassion. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the beloved Japanese violinist and teacher, once said "Music exists for the purpose of growing an admirable heart." It is our hope that the Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra will open many hearts in unexpected ways as our musical journey unfolds. — Anne Marie Peterson
An exciting announcement
from Dr. Matt Gibson
WIO Board of Directors Chair
On behalf of the Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra Board of Directors, it is my privilege to announce that we met last Thursday, December 5 and unanimously appointed our own Principal Violist Sarah Oftedahl to succeed Founding Director Anne Marie Peterson as the Artistic Director of the Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra!
As you know, we conducted a rigorous recruitment and selection process that vetted three qualified applicants, invited each to conduct rehearsals and a guest performance, and collected valuable feedback from all of you. While each of the three applicants brought something special to the process, Sarah’s strings background and teaching experience, professional qualifications and aspirations, and organizational and relational skills provided the best match to continue the legacy of Anne Marie Peterson and build upon it for WIO’s future. Sarah enthusiastically accepted the Artistic Director appointment effective January 1, 2025. As you know, Sarah and Anne Marie will team the Artistic Director responsibilities through June 30, 2025 to provide a thorough transition that may also be extended through Anne Marie’s upcoming appointment as Founding Artistic Director Emerita.
